TheACRL Virtual Worlds Interest Group meets every 3rd Wednesday at 10am (Pacific) to share educational topics with a focus on information literacy in virtual spaces. Our main meeting space is at the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium Fireside Deck (Second Life URL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/VWEC%20Eduverse/177/178/29). Simulcasting and closed captioning are available upon request.

The ACRL VWIG also explores other virtual spaces, such as the virtual world Kitely through collaboration with the VR Exploder Club.

For in-world event notices, join the free “ACRL in Second Life” group in Second Life or the “Virtual World Education Consortium” group in Second Life. While encouraged, you do not need to be a member of ALA or ACRL to join or attend any of the events.

OUR PURPOSE

To provide information and activities for ACRL (Association of College and Research Libraries) members and non-members interested in information literacy, librarianship, and education as it relates to virtual worlds; to recruit new ACRL members through virtual worlds; to manage the ACRL presence in virtual worlds; to participate and support the activities of ACRL in virtual worlds on an ongoing basis; to hold meetings within these virtual environments at ALA and ACRL conferences  in order to share information and provide professional networking opportunities.

OFFICERS

VWIG must have at least three officers at any time (Incoming Convener, Convener, Outgoing Convener). These officers must be members of ACRL. VWIG members may volunteer to serve as Incoming Convener (or Incoming Co-Convener) for a year, and then Convener (or Co-Convener) for another year. New Conveners (or Co-Conveners) take office following ALA Annual Conference each year (~July 1st).

SCHEDULING PROGRAMS

ACRL VWIG typically meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, 10am – 11am (Pacific).

However, meetings and programs may be held jointly or sequentially on the same day with other groups and events, such as the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium, Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable, Octagon Creative Exploration, Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education conference, Virtual Center for Archives & Records Administration, the Dickens Project, and Sheila Webber’s Information Literacy Research group.
